
Saina Nehwal, the Indian Badminton player was born on March 17, 1990 at Hisar, Haryana. Her father Dr. Harvir Singh, a scientist at the Directorate of Oilseeds Research, and her mother Usha Nehwal, both of them were former badminton champions in Haryana. She spent her complete life in Hyderabad. She is the first Indian to reach the singles quarterfinals at the Olympics and the first Indian to win the World Junior Badminton Championships. At the start of his career her father spent huge money for her training and travelling. Later she was sponsored by several companies like Yonex, BPCL, Mittal Champions Trust. She created history by winning the prestigious Asian Satellite Badminton tournament twice and becoming the first player to do so. She is currently ranked number 6 in the world by the Badminton World Federation. She created history on June 21st 2009, a stunning victory over a higher-ranked Chinese Lin Wang in Jakarta and became the First Indian to win a Super Series tournament. There are several milestones in her career by winning the championships in a short period of time. She was rewarded Arjuna award in August 2009 and her coach Shri Gopichand was also rewarded with Dronacharya award at the same time. She became the Indian of the Year in the event of sports in 2009 which was given by the CNN-IBN. I wish her All the Best and She has to do lot more for India in future.
